Haiti - Economy : Monthly inflation still rising 06/10/2017 10:33:42
The monthly rise in inflation is mainly due to the behavior of consumption functions: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 1.1%), "Clothing, fabrics, footwear" %) and "Leisure, Entertainment, Teaching and Culture" (+ 1.5%). The positive change in the food, beverages and tobacco index, which accounts for more than 50% of the household budget, is due in part to an increase in millet (+ 3.6%), corn flakes (+ 2.1%), beef (+ 2.2%), pork (+ 2.7%), cabri meat (+ 2.5%), chicken (+ 1.4%), fresh fish (+ 2.6%), coconut (+ 2.5%), banana (1.7%), giraumon (+ 1.5%), green pea (+ 1.0%), leek (+ 1.2%), eggplant 1.6%), cabbage (+ 1.4%), onion (+ 1.7%), carrot (+ 2.2%), tomato (+ 2.2%), yam potato (+ 2.4%), orange (+ 1.3%), papaya (+ 1.7%) and lemon (+ 2.4%). The increase in the Clothing, Fabrics and Shoes index is particularly linked to prices: fabric (+ 2.2%), shirt (+ 1.2%), trousers (+ 1.6%), clothing (+ 1.8%) and shoes and tennis (+ 1.1%). The increase in the Health Index was mainly due to higher fees paid to physicians (+ 1.1%) and laboratory and radiography analyzes (+ 1.3%). Lastly, the upward trend observed in the "Leisure, Entertainment, Teaching and Culture" index is mainly due to the increase in the prices of school books (+ 6.2%) and the school bag (+6.8 %).
