Haiti - Agriculture : Signing of an extremely important agreement
Monday, the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), Carmel André Béliard, and the Representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Haiti, Dr. Nathanael Hishamunda, have signed the Country Programming Framework (CPP-Haiti) to guide FAO's interventions in support of the Haitian Government for the period 2017-2020. The ceremony was held at the FAO-Haiti office, in the presence of the executives of both institutions.

Minister Béliard and the Representative, Dr. Hishamunda, welcomed the joint work of the MARNDR executives, the Ministry of the Environment (MoE), other sectoral Ministries, as well as those of the FAO, who led to the CPP (2017-2020) whose main objective is to improve the food and nutritional security of rural communities in a sustainable way, while making a rational management of natural resources.

The MARNDR Holder welcomed the fact that the CPP takes into account the guidelines defined in the roadmap of the Haitian Government for the agricultural sector "The signing of the Country Programming Framework will weigh heavily in the collaboration between the MARNDR and the FAO, this will undoubtedly have positive spin-offs for the agricultural sector," said Minister Béliard during his remarks. In addition, he mentioned the willingness of the Ministry of Agriculture to work within the framework of this Strategic Program to create better opportunities to make the agricultural sector economically more attractive.

For his part, Dr. Hishamunda reiterated FAO's commitment to work with the Government of Haiti to achieve the objectives of this new CPP "This strategic technical cooperation document we are signing today is an extremely important document for the Ministry of Agriculture and FAO, which will guide us to better serve the Haitian people in the field of Food and Nutrition Security."

The CPP-Haiti / 2017-2020 : a consultative and participative process

It is important to note that the Country Programming Framework (CPP-Haiti, 2017-2020), whose total implementation cost is estimated at US $ 61 million, aligns with the national priorities as defined in the vision of the Head of State, Jovenel Moïse, and in the policy documents, and targets four priority areas, including: (i) Institutional Capacity Building on Food and Nutrition Security (SAN); (ii) Development of agricultural sectors; (iii) Conservation and Management of Natural Resources; and (iv) Building resilience to natural disasters and food crises.
