Haiti - Army : The remobilization of the Armed Forces of Haiti, a priority !
The Ministry of Communication in its series of weekly conferences yesterday Monday, November 13, received the Minister of Defense, Hervé Denis, who gave an update on the mission of the new army, the new regulations of the FAD'H and the various activities already undertaken by the Corps of Military Engineering.

"If there had not been 18 November there would have been no independence of Haiti," Minister Denis said immediately, adding about the army "Our vision is that of a professional army, capable of defending the territory, at all levels. The mission of the new armed force is to defend the territory, to intervene in case of need, at different levels and to contribute to the development of the country.

The new army is part of the vision of the Head of State, Jovenel Moïse to endow the country with a defense force. Campaign promise of Jovenel Moïse, the new defense force will be remobilized and will have to serve the development of the country."

The Minister of Defense, M Hervé Denis said that the remobilization of the Haitian Armed Forces is one of the priorities of his Ministry following the recommendations of the White Paper developed under the administration of the former President Martelly and the roadmap submitted to him by Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant.

Regarding the General Staff he informed "Very soon we will have a staff (even if provisional) for the new defense force of the country. We presented to the Head of State a list of members for the General Staff. In accordance with his firm will, the process is progressing rapidly," emphasizing that the constitutional prerogative of appointing a Commander-in-Chief is strictly the responsibility of the President of the Republic, while indicating that a list with well-established criteria is already forwarded to the Head of State, Jovele Moïse , and a presidential decree will be issued shortly to seal this issue.

Also he specified "The first democratic duty is to respect the Constitution of his country. Despite the nomenclature 'FAdH', the new army will be oriented towards development. We live in the era of democracy: we must look forward, not backward." He recalled that the constitution of the country recognizes two armed forces on the territory: the Police and the Army.

"Today, the Defense Ministry's Engineering Corps has 2 contingents that are operational: medical and aviation. The goal is to mobilize about 500 new troops for each sequence [...] The past must simply serve as a reference for us not to make the same mistakes," said the Defense Minister. This new army will consist of three components: a Corps of Engineering, a Medical Corps and a Aviation Corps. The Corps of Military Engineers, made up of 150 officers and soldiers through bilateral cooperation with Ecuador, has already undertaken many activities in response to natural disasters. The construction of several hundred kilometers of road, post-cyclonic interventions, sanitation, are, among other things, activities already carried out by the Corps of Engineering.

To conclude he said "The Cap-Haïtien has been strategically chosen to commemorate this year, the battle of Vertières: proximity to the site, and historical value." The Minister of Defense announced the first official parade of the new army on November 18, on the occasion of the celebration of the Battle of Vertières.
