Haiti - Security : Police training in the protection of minors
On the initiative of the Internal Security Service of the Embassy of France in Haiti, a training course on procedures related to offenses committed by or against minors, was recently given by a trainer of the Commissariat of Public Security of Narbonne (South of France) to investigators of the Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ).

This training was attended by fifteen investigators from the DCPJ's Minors Protection Brigade or of Minors' Services of the Departmental Department of the West from the police stations of Pétion-ville, Croix des Bouquets and Delmas.

Responding to a request from the DCPJ to deal with the growing number of minors involved in the crime in Haiti and more particularly in the city of Port-au-Prince, this training allowed to address all the aspects of the procedure related to the offenses committed by or against minors, in particular the specificities of the hearing of the juvenile delinquent or victim.

Among the themes studied included the recall of legislation relating to minors as well as techniques for the collection of their speech (questioning, reformulation, media, etc...) The trainer also insisited on the pitfalls and difficulties of these techniques (problematic false allegations ...) and carried out several practical exercises.

The intervention of 2 Haitian colleagues who shared their experience feedback after having participated in the thematic seminar on minors, organized by the Defense Group International Council (DCI) in July 2017 at the National Police School of Saint-Malo (France) was highly appreciated.
