Haiti - Social : Appeal for funds of $252M from international donors
Thursday, the Government of Haiti and the humanitarian community launched an appeal for funds of $252.2 million dollars to cover the critical humanitarian needs of 2.2 million people through the Humanitarian Response Plan 2017-2018 (phase 2018) https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-23227-icihaiti-social-important-launch-of-revised-humanitarian-response-plan-2017-2018.html . The plain aims to save lives and assist the most vulnerable while strengthening the resilience of the population and national institutions to face crises and natural disasters, while paving the way towards sustainable development. The plan was launched in the presence of the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, the Humanitarian Coordinator, donors, heads of UN agencies and national and international NGOs, among others.

"This Humanitarian Response Plan has to contribute to a measurable reduction of the risks and vulnerabilities to which the populations the most affected by the recent crisis in the country are exposed, while reinforcing the capacities of the local structures. The Haitian Government wants to maintain a humanitarian response, while being engaged in a dynamic that will permit the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, in order to ensure that the country reinforces its development programs," stated the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, Aviol Fleurant.

"This revised plan includes strategic interventions that can reduce the vulnerabilities in both the short and the long term through the reinforcement of the communities and the institutional resilience. We have to implement actions that facilitate a harmonic nexus between the humanitarian response and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Supporting this humanitarian response will permit to assist persons that are in need of urgent aid, but this support will be at the same time an investment to create the conditions for a sustainable and inclusive development," highlighted the Humanitarian Coordinator, Resident Coordinator and Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in Haiti, Dr. Mamadou Diallo. "We have the opportunity to work together to support the Haitian authorities and the Haitian population to recover and to lead the future that they want to build for themselves," added Dr. Diallo.

The funding request addresses the following priority needs identified by the Government of Haiti in collaboration with the humanitarian community: Food security (USD 76.6 million); Nutrition (USD 2 million); Health ($ 4.9 million); Emergency shelter and essential non-food items (US $ 103.8 million); Access to water, sanitation and hygiene -WASH (USD 6.3 million); Protection of the most vulnerable ($ 7.8 million); Education (USD 2.5 million); Cholera response (US $ 21.7 million); Recovery ($ 10.8 million); Camp coordination and camp management ($ 13.7 million), as well as coordination ($ 2 million).

"We want to thank the donors that have mobilized funding for Haiti in a complex and global context in which the available resources for the existing crisis is limited. This year, once again, the humanitarian community counts on your generous contributions to give an adequate response to the recurrent humanitarian needs in Haiti, improving the live conditions of the persons in need of urgent assistance, and creating the conditions for a sustainable and inclusive development," concluded Dr. Diallo.
