Haiti - Japan : $34M donation for the Croix des Missions and the Route Neuve bridges
Friday, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, in the presence of Fritz Caillot, the Minister of Public Works, the Japanese Ambassador to Haiti, Yoshiaki Hatta, of Senator of the South, Hervé Fourcand, Mayors and Deputies of the communes of Croix des Bouquets, Tabarre and Cité Soleil, participated in the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the construction of the Croix des Missions bridges and that of Route Neuve.

These two bridges will ensure at least for the next 50 years, the continuity of traffic between the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and the Great North.

The construction of these prestressed concrete bridges, located at Croix-des-Missions and Cité Soleil, is financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JIPA) thanks to a donation of more than 34 million (34,345,636.36 US dollars). The 32-month project will be carried out by Hazama Ando Corporation (one of the ten largest Japanese-built multinational companies founded in 1889, with locations in the United States, Mexico, Central America and South America, among others).

Remember that this construction follows a donation agreement signed in September 2015, at the time by the Japanese Ambassador to Haiti Katsuyoshi Tamura and Lener Renaud the Minister of Foreign Affairs https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15030-haiti-politic-japan-donated-$30m-for-the-construction-of-2-bridges.html

"By cooperating with the Central Government and local elected officials for the construction of the Croix des Missions Bridges and that of Route Neuve, Japan intends to consolidate its relationship with Haiti," said Japanese Ambassador Yoshiaki Hatta.

"These bridges have a twofold objective: to provide communes with modern infrastructures and to bring serenity to road users," said Mayor Jean Jonas Saint Juste...

"The construction of these bridges marks the beginning of a service for the benefit of the Haitian people," said deputy Jean Willer Jean of the Circumscription de Croix-des-Bouquets.
