Haiti - Economy : The PNH tracks zombies checks and recovers millions !
Every month, the National Police of Haiti (PNH) issues nearly 19,000 paychecks (police officers and administrative staff). In order to put an end to zombie checks, that is, the payment of salaries to staff who have resigned, abandoned their positions, absent or deceased, police authorities have taken steps to exercise greater control over its staff and has been carrying out rigorous verifications for several months.

For the last 3 months only, these verifications and investigations have enabled the General Directorate of the PNH to recover nearly 50 million gourdes of zombies checks attributed to both police officers and administrative staff.

Moreover, the Directorate General of the PNH decided, in some police station to hand itself the checks to beneficiaries, which caused in several police stations, to the announcement of this measure, the spontaneous return of several hundred checks of which the amount has not yet been recorded. For Michel-Ange Gédéon, the Director General of the PNH this reaction proves that police station officials are well involved in this fraud to zombies checks. Firmly determined to clean the police of these people who engage in this practice and tarnish the reputation of the police, he says that these people will be punished with rigor by law and that investigations are under way to determine and identify the leaders and their accomplices.
