Haiti - Environment : The Protected Areas Surveillance Brigade takes action 22/02/2018 10:10:17
This week at a press conference, Divisional Inspector Bob Alexis of the National Agency of Protected Areas (ANAP) accompanied by Major Michot Saint Fleur of the Protected Areas Surveillance Brigade (BSAP) gave an update on the latest actions of BSAP conducted jointly with police and judicial authorities.
Following the decision of the Ministry of Environment of the suspension of the extraction of sand from all the quarries of Morne à Cabri https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23300-haiti-notice-suspension-of-extraction-of-sand-at-the-morne-cabri.html several control and closure interventions were carried out.
Inspector Alexis said that between January 20 and February 1 in the framework of joint operation of the BSAP, the National Police of Haiti (PNH) had proceeded in various careers of the perimeter of the More à Cabri, to the seizure of several equipment and 6 heavy machinery, as well as the arrest of around 15 people: truck drivers, excavator drivers and sand-loading workers that contravened the decision of the Ministry of the Environment to ban sand mining activities in quarries which for the most part are illegal... https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22399-haiti-environment-89-of-quarries-are-illegal-in-the-west.html
