"Allo Agro announces with a lot of pain, the sad news of the death of the Engineer-Agronomist Gérald Mathurin, former Minister of Agriculture under René Préval, who died on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the age of 64 following a Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) at the Canape-Vert Hospital in Port-au-Prince

[...] The history of Haiti will retain from Agronomist Gérald Mathurin a very honest man. For, despite his high political and social functions, he was not rich and he knew dark days and setbacks. He saw and considered the human before the money.

[...] Allo Agro offers his condolences to his wife; to his children; to his brothers and sisters, especially his big brother, Agr. Laurent Féquière Mathurin; to his comrades of Promotion 1973-1977, in particular Agr. Fritz Christmas, Agr. Jean Paul Samedy, the former Minister of Agriculture, Agr. Sebastien Hilaire, the former Minister of National Education, Agr. Joel Jean Pierre ; to all other relatives and friends affected by this loss.

A native of Jacmel, Gerald Mathutin is a graduate of the 1973-1977 Promotion of the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (FAMV). He began his career as an Agronomist at the Artibonite Valley Development Agency (ODVA) where he gained a long and extensive professional experience in the agricultural sector before becoming the Director General of this organization. He specialized in rice farming and worked in the Agricultural District of Les Cayes before becoming Director of Integrated Development Program of Jérémie. He became Minister of Agriculture of Natural Resources and Rural Development under René Préval (1996-1997) and was the Founder and Coordinator of the Regional Coordination of Organizations of South-East (CROSE), a social movement of peasants, women and young people.
