Haiti - Politic : Senator Dumond wants to know what is done with the money of the diaspora
Since the Bill on the organization and operation of the National Fund for Education (FNE), created under the President Martelly in May 2011 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3034-haiti-education-launch-of-the-national-fund-for-education-fne-by-martelly-update-1h03pm.html was voted on June 28, 2017 by the Senate after 5 years of blocking (by the majority opposition at the time) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21412-haiti-politics-after-5-years-of-blocking-the-senate-votes-the-law-on-the-fne.html (Ratified by the Chamber of Deputies in August 2012), more than one wonders about the use of these taxes levied on remittances and the incoming minutes of phone calls from the diaspora that have been collected since 2011.

It is to know more, that the West Senator Patrice Dumond aka "Pépé", of the Rally of the Haitian Patriots (RPH) sent a correspondence to the Senator Joseph Lambert, President of the Senate, to try to know what becomes this fund and its use.

Letter from Senator Dumond :

"Honorable Joseph Lambert
President of the Senate of the Republic
In his offices

Honorable President.

I present you my compliments and ask you to invite the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank within ten clear days, to make available to the Senate of the Republic the data concerning the funds constituted since June 2011 by taxes of $ 1.50 on transfers of Haitians from the diaspora and those of five cents per minute on international calls.

More specifically, I expect from the Minister and the Governor to let the Nation know how much money has already entered the coffers of the State since the creation of these two taxes, the balance of these funds at the time they receive this message.

Please accept, Honorable President, my best regards.

Patrice Dumond
Senator of the Republic."

Recall that the FNE is an autonomous organization of unlimited duration that operates under the supervision of the Ministry of National Education, with a Board of Directors of 7 members from the Ministries of Economy, National Education , Planning and MHAVE, the Teachers' Unions Sector, the National Federation of Haitian Mayors (FENAMH) and the human rights sector.
