Haiti - FLASH : Moïse discusses Visas with the President of Chile

Saturday, on the sidelines of the VIII Summit of the Americas, held in Lima, Peru, Jovenel Moïse met for nearly 15 minutes with his Chilean counterpart, President Sebastian Piñera, to discuss cooperation and challenges related to the migratory question between the two countries.

At this meeting, an initiative of the President of Chile, were addressed "many problems", said Piñera, especially the changes that the Chilean Government is implementing in its migration policy, including the requirement of a Visa for Haitians from Monday, April 16, 2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24055-haiti-flash-chile-requires-a-visa-for-haitians.html

"Chile has always been an open and welcoming country with migration, but migrants who come to Chile must comply with our laws, to integrate into our society, to contribute to our country. It will continue like this, but we want it to be a regulated and safe migration," Piñera told the President of Haiti to justify the visa requirement for Haitians. According to President Piñera "These explanations have been well received and understood by the President of Haiti," who acknowledged that this massive migration harmed the economy of his country, especially when young people decide to leave Haiti to live elsewhere.
