Haiti - FLASH : Land conflict in Thiotte, agents of the BRICIF flee 29/04/2018 10:04:23 According to the Deputy of Thiotte, Vickerson Garnier alerted by this operation and after verification, said that the Departmental Directorate of the South-East of the PNH, the departmental delegation, the Commissioner of the Government, the police authorities at the national level, nobody was informed of this operation. The Deputy was very critical vis-à-vis the BRICIF agents, who should have analyzed the situation and consulted the population before taking any decision. The Deputy reports that the situation degenerated when a teenager was injured by a shot that would have come for a reason unknown of agents of the PNH according to witnesses. Angry and highly motivated, members of the population vandalized, looted and burned the two vehicles carrying the BRICIF agent and two surveyors. The BRICIF agents, fleeing the fury of the population under threats and throwing stones, had to abandon their vehicles and the weapons they contained (Israeli-made Galil 5.56 mm caliber rifle, 12 gauge and 9mm handguns). Local authorities say they are doing everything they can to find and return these weapons to the PNH. The version of the Departmental Director of the PNH Southeast Menes Auguste, is that the population opposed the execution of a judgment by the agents of the BRICIF, who refusing to face the fury of the inhabitants had to esacape on foot to protect their lives, unable to recover their vehicles that were burned by unknown. At least one police officer was reportedly injured in their escape. He acknowledges that he was not aware of this operation, stating that the BRICIF reports to the Ministry of Justice and not to the Central Directorate of Administrative Police (DCPA). For his part, Léon Ronsard Saint Cyr, the Secretary of State for Public Security, in a note strongly condemns this unspeakable act and renews "its determination to fight land insecurity in all its forms". In addition, it praises "the exemplary and professional behavior of the police officers for their behavior in the face of threats and stone throwing of which they were subject," and thanks the notables of the zone who allowed these police officers to regain their respective domicile. The Secretary of State informs that the situation has returned to normal and asks the population of Thiotte to keep calm. S/ HaitiLibre
