Haiti - Politic : Moïse aims as objective, access to drinking water for at least 82% of the population
As part of the "Mondays of the Press" Guito Edouard the Director General of the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) gave an update on the activities set up and the prospects set by his team.

Guito Edouard mentioned the considerable efforts already made by DINEPA's new directorate to improve the quality of service offered to the population and increase the distribution of drinking water in the territory. In terms of implementation, he cited: capacity building of staff through oriented training programs, development of the national technical reference system for the drinking water and sanitation sector, improvement of access to services Potable Water and Sanitation (EPA), the implementation of adapted service in both urban and rural areas including the promotion of sanitation and strengthening of environmental governance.

He indicated that DINEPA is currently working on a pricing policy that will allow tariffs to be adapted according to the zone and the socio-economic situation of the customers.

In terms of announcements Guito Edouard cited :

  • A project to build 66 modern sanitary blocks by local firms has been launched in the metropolitan area to reduce and eradicate open defecation ;
  • The construction of the first plastic pipe manufacturing plant in the country is planned in Caracol to reduce the price of pipes on the market ;
  • The implementation of a program to supply EPA in sustainable rural zone;
  • EPA infrastructure in Port-au-Prince ;
  • An institutional strengthening program of the EPA sector through the public treasury.

Recalling that all these achievements and projects are in line with President Jovenel Moïse's goal of providing access to drinking water for at least 82% of the population by the end of his five-year term.

Note that if DINEPA achieves this goal, while less than 50% of Haitians living in the countryside have access to drinking water https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14136-haiti-health-5-things-to-know-about-the-water-issue-in-haiti.html , it will be thanks to billions of Gourdes international donors who finance 61% of operations DINEPA (IDB, Europe, World Bank, USAID, AECID etc...) demonstrating once again how much we are dependent on the international.
