Haiti - NBA/Jumpstart Digicel : 7 young basketball players selected for the elite camp
Past weekend some fifty young Fifty aspiring basketball athletes, participated in the Digicel NBA Jumpstart Camp at the Centre Sport Pour L’Espoir https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24369-haiti-basketball-the-nba-in-the-country-to-train-and-recruit-young-haitian-hopes.html from May 12th to 13th. It was a dynamic, fun-filled weekend, providing an exclusive opportunity for campers to experience this unique program, held for the first time in Haiti.

NBA coaches, Troy Justice and Caleb Canales, led the players through a variety of activities on and off the court, including individual player development, 5-on-5 games, life skills education, offensive improvement, shooting, dribbling among others.

At the end of the camp, five boys, Enock Rosil, Isaac Genesté Pierre, Chedlet Delva, Riché Hantz, Belizaire Keder and two girls, Shakira Pierre and Joudeline Pierre were selected to represent their country and continue with the Digicel NBA Jumpstart Programme at the Elite Camp in Trinidad and Tobago from July 14 to 15.

“We had a lot of great competition and everyone was fighting for those spots” remarked Troy Justice, NBA Senior Director of Basketball Operations International. He also went on to say, “There was a lot of intense play and it was well deserved for those selected. Everyone did great work and a lot of teaching went on for the two days. Those who were not selected should continue to work hard, as they have bright futures ahead of them. This camp is meant to help every young participant not to be a better player, but instead, to be a better person.”

Maarten Boute CEO of Digicel Haiti said, “I would like to congratulate the top seven players, all participants, their parents, coaches and supporters for making this weekend an exciting one. All participants were really put to the test this weekend. Sports play an important part in our everyday lives, especially in the young people’s lives. We are looking forward to delivering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to even more boys and girls who will get to learn from the world’s bests.”

Digicel is committed to nurturing and developing sports wherever it operates through grassroots initiatives and the Jumpstart programme leverages major sports partnerships to develop and preserve young talent across the region.
