Haiti - Politic : Venezuela authorizes Haiti to use some of the money from its debt 12/07/2018 07:56:53
Given the financial sanctions imposed on Venezuela by the United States making financial transactions with Haiti almost impossible, Haiti is forced to obtain oil on the international market since October 2017 and no longer benefits from the manna PetroCaribe. However, in the framework of the agreement signed in November 2017 between President Nicolás Maduro and Jovenel Moïse https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22855-haiti-news-zapping.html the Government of Venezuela authorizes the Haitian Government to use nearly $ 82 million that Haiti owes Venezuela as part of its PetroCaribe debt. Note that this money, which is available and blocked in Haiti for several months, can not be transferred to Venezuela because of US sanctions, will be disbursed at a rate of 3 million dollars per month to finance social projects in Haiti, the purchase agricultural tools and tractors, as well as micro-hydro projects, among others. In return, Haiti will reimburse these millions by sending foodstuffs in return, among others: flour, pasta, beans and coffee, sending of food that is not subject to US sanctions. These commodities will be distributed by the Government of President Nicolás Maduro to the most needy Venezuelans.
