Haiti - Social : Launch of the Economic Recovery Project in Mahotière
On 2 August in Mahotière, 4th Communal Section of Port de Paix, the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) launched the project "Economic Recovery and Livelihood Improvement", which aims to reduce economic vulnerability of communities in Mahotière, as part of the Minujusth Community Violence Reduction Program.

This project, based on a vertical approach (from the bottom up), aims to support national authorities in strengthening the rule of law and reducing the level of food and social insecurity in Mahotière. This project must, inter alia : promote the reduction of social violence, facilitate access to seeds by distributing seed kits to farmers for the spring agricultural campaign, facilitate small trade with vulnerable families by distributing Income Generating Activities (RGAs) kits and strengthening the management capacity of women from vulnerable families, in implementing Minujusth's mandate.

This project targets a total of 863 beneficiaries including 300 women and will be achieved by mutual agreement with the Departmental Directorates of North-West Agriculture, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of the Status of Women, local authorities (Councils Administration of Communal Sections - CASEC and Administration of Communal Sections - ASEC) and Community Based Organizations to guarantee the sustainability of actions.

The following activities will be carried out among others :

  • Awareness campaign on community conflict management ;
  • Strengthening the rule of law and reducing gender-based violence ;
  • Seed distribution: peas, beans and maize to farmers ;
  • Entrepreneurship training for small traders ;
  • Distribution of kits for AGR (Ti Biznis) in the food products sector (peas, rice), processing peanuts, fries, butchery and vegetable sales.
