Haiti - Aristide Return : Everything is possible... Nothing is certain...
"President Aristide is still in South Africa. We are working on logistical issues to enable him to leave as soon as possible and we hope, before Sunday," said Ira Kurzban which is in South Africa since Wednesday to assist his client. That can be today, tomorrow, the next day. [...] That can be on a commercial flight or aboard a private plane [...] this is to the South-African government, in relation to the Haitian government, to make sure that logistics is ensured, that his safety is guaranteed, etc..."

President Barack Obama told his South African counterpart, Jacob Zuma, his concern to see the former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide returned from his South African exile before the presidential election of Sunday in Haiti, announced Thursday the White House.

According to Tommy Vietor, a spokesman for the White House, Mr. Obama on Tuesday called Mr. Zuma about the return of former President Aristide "The United States, along with others in the international community, has deep concerns that President Aristide's return to Haiti in the closing days of the election could be destabilizing" Vietor said "President Obama reiterated ... his belief that the Haitian people deserve the chance to choose their government through peaceful, free, and fair elections March 20" added the U.S. President quoted by his spokesman.

Paris said Thursday that it was "informed of these rumors. [...] Nothing should distract of the necessary mobilization to complete the electoral process" said Bernard Valero, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The media of Pretoria have mentioned the enormous pressure that the Government of South Africa underwent, stating that U.S. President Barack Obama and the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had talked by telephone with President Jacob Zuma, asking him to persuade Aristide to wait after the elections.

Collins Chabane, the Minister of the Presidency, said that despite the "warnings" of the United States, on the date of the return of former Haitian President, Pretoria would not insist on the former leader so that he waits after Sunday, to return in his country. Stating that the Government of South Africa could not hold Aristide "as a hostage [...] and we can not be held responsible if he should leave or not."

Earlier Thursday, the Minister Chabane had declared that Aristide had failed to give a precise indication to the South African Government about the date he planned to return to Haiti.

According to our latest information, Clayson Monyela, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has just invited "the media to Lanseria airport at 8h45 pm [1h45 haiti time] where former President Aristide will give a press conference to discuss about his plans."

Meanwhile, in Haiti in Tabarre, the permanence is decreed at the residence of the former President. More than a hundred citizens and professionals have been mobilized to refurbish his private residence which was looted after his departure. Just yesterday, staff were busy to decorate the house and give a final sweep. Outside, some Haitian and foreign journalists, were visible in front of the residence. Since the Toussaint Louverture International Airport to the District of Tabarre, banners are deployed to welcome home the former President. The Aristide Foundation for Democracy diffuse since Wednesday evening on the radios, a spot of "Good return"

Jean-Bertrand Aristide, a former priest, claiming the "liberation theology", is still very popular among the poor through his populist speeches. Sign of the popularity and the influence of Aristide in Haiti, the two presidential candidates, Mirlande Manigat and Michel have indicated that they had no objection to his return, but they prefer a return after the vote of Sunday.
