Haiti - Chile : A Haitian pursues his employer for 271 million pesos 06/12/2018 09:59:14 The accident occurred on November 16 in Los Angeles, in the Nuñble area, more specifically in the premises of Serfocom company specializing in forestry services and construction. Dominique Melvin claims that the company would not have given him the necessary instructions to safely operate a conveyor that amputated him in the accident four finger. Reacting to the accident, the employer offered the Haitian worker compensation of 500,000 pesos (± 743.25 dollars) and return tickets to Haiti. This offer, described as "ridiculous" by Melvin , led him, with the help of a lawyer specialized in labor law, to bring an action for damages for occupational injuries, against the company Serfocom, before the second court of labor of Los Angeles. Melvin would seek in his lawsuit the payment of 140 million pesos (± 208,110 dollars) for moral damages and 131 million pesos for loss of earnings (± 195,219 dollars). S/ HaitiLibre
