Haiti - DR : Israel proposes its technologies to protect the border
Daniel Biran, Israel's Ambassador to Santo Domingo, announced this week that his country is ready to collaborate with the Dominican Republic to find a solution to the problems of the border with Haiti "We have all kinds of technologies and alternatives for the border," he said, citing the use of drones and satellite surveillance, among the options that could be used to combat smuggling and illegal migration.

Daniel Biran pointed out that because of the length of the border that separates the two countries of the island (376 km), a large-scale and long-term project would be necessary, without however specify his thought. Adding, "Although the conditions of the State of Israel and those of the Dominican Republic are not the same, I think we can bring our experience, each country having the right and the obligation to protect its borders."

An announcement comes days after Federico Antún Batlle, the Dominican President of the Social-Reform Social Christian Party (PRSC), a nationalist anti-Haitian opposition party, who reacted on the security of the border with Haiti had declared "It's a virtually open border, where everything goes without any control from the authorities; and it is the easiest way for illegal immigration on the national territory," adding that the construction of a wall at the border became more and more necessary and urgent. "A wall all along the border strip is fundamental for the survival of the Dominican people, because it will allow us to prevent the smuggling and illegal migration of Haitians and ensure the safety of Dominican populations living in the border area."
