Haiti - Reconstruction : Hospital of Mirebalais, work is progressing well 12/04/2011 12:05:47 The hospital will replace an old hospital dysfunctional, which was in the process of being closed down in January 2009. The original plan of PIH was to build a 108-bed. regional hospital, which was later scaled up at the request of the ministry following 10 January 2010 earthquake in the region that destroyed Haiti's main teaching hospital in Port-au-Prince. Following the earthquake of 2010 which destroyed the main teaching hospital of Port-au-Prince, following the request of the Haitian Ministry of Health, the capacity of this hospital was increased by 320 beds. Covering an area of 180,000 square feet, the new hospital will have six operating rooms, an outpatient clinic with 12 consultation rooms, large naturally ventilated waiting area, an emergency room, a room for medical records, laboratory , pharmacy, administrative offices and a service of malnutrition and HIV clinic. Various inpatient services will consist of several separate units for men, women and children of a capacity of 25-30 beds per unit. In addition, there will be 11 isolation rooms to accommodate patients with contagious diseases. The hospital will be equipped with the latest technologies in the medical field (digital x-ray etc...) S/ HaitiLibre The hospital will also incorporate 9,310 square feet of garden courtyards, and constructed in compliance with seismic standards and environmental issues (energy supply provided in part by solar panels, rainwater harvesting system to be used for irrigation of native planted gardens during dry season etc...).
