Haiti - Elections : 6 organizations of civil society favorables to the report of the JEOM

At a time where the Haitian people eagerly awaiting the restart of the country, the population attends with exasperation to the tergiversations of the Electoral Council on the recent publication of final results of legislative elections.

6 Civil Society organizations: the National Council of Observation (NOC), the Civil Society Initiative (ISC), the National Network for the Defence of Human Rights (RNDDH), the Haitian Council of Non State Actors (CONHANE), the Centre for Studies and Research in Social Sciences and Penal (CERESS) andthe Mouvman Fanm Kafou (MOFKA) are favoral to the report of the Mission OAS/CARICOM (JEOM):

"We reviewed the report carefully and found it acceptable especially as it joins the central point of our note of April 22 ie the use of audit that has been neglected by the BCEN. The proposal of Mr. Gaillot Dorsinvil to establish a special court to retry certain cases is not acceptable. We can not go back. [...] It is now the duty of this electoral body [CEP] to take into account the various recommendations of the JEOM [...] Today, the CEP and the executive should make every effort to avoid a post-electoral crisis, which is useless.

It is unfortunate that the Haitian leaders, in recent years have not been able to get up to the national responsibilities entrusted to them by the Nation. However it is to hope that the future leaders will demonstrate a greater sense of responsibility vis-à-vis the citizens of the country, without partisanship."
