Haiti - Social : 213th anniversary of the assassination of Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines 17/10/2019 09:48:37
Reflections of Lesly Condé : "Dear compatriots from everywhere, Dear friends of Haiti, The anniversary of the tragic disappearance of the Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the illustrious Father of the Haitian Homeland, always offers us the opportunity to look into the life of this hero who, thanks to his bravery and vision, managed to bring about profound changes, even beyond our borders. For the Haitian Nation, October 17 is now an infamous date because it makes us think of the treachery and greed of those who have cowardly assassinated one of the greatest heroes in the history of humanity. We can say that this assassination changed the course of the history of our country, only two years after its birth and that all our misfortunes of today are the direct consequences. We can not prevent thinking about what we would be today if the vision of Jean-Jacques Dessalines had triumphed. It remains certain that even in the face of the many pressures of his own comrades-in-arms, Dessalines remained united with the unknown heroes of our independence. It may be said that after having defeated the French troops, the Father of our Nation was, in turn, defeated by his own compatriots. Yet, instead of lamenting us about the humiliating details of this assassination, and instead of dwelling on what our nation might have been, we must celebrate the life of this great man, and draw from him some imperishable lessons that are capable of us guide, generation after generation. Jean-Jacques Dessalines is a powerful example of bravery, tenacity and clairvoyance. His attachment to the cause of human dignity makes him an admirable giant whose magnanimity transcends our borders. However, there are many who have sought and still seek to minimize its achievements and the importance of our country on a global scale. It is up to each of us to glorify Jean-Jacques Dessalines, to be proud of him, and to be guided by his example. His pragmatism will be particularly beneficial to us at this moment because our Nation desperately needs the wisdom of all his sons. The best way to commemorate the disappearance of the founder of our Nation is to restore to him all the merit that our history books who had refused him for a long time. It is to be hoped that in a not too distant future, the citizens of the country of Jean-Jacques Dessalines will find the courage and foresight to embrace the Dessalinian ideal. It would do justice to the memory of one of the most valuable people in the history of humanity." HL/ HaitiLibre
