Haiti - Health : The US hospital ship USNS COMFORT has arrived
As part of the United States Navy's "Sustainable Promise" operation, the hospital ship "USNS COMFORT" arrived in Haiti for its 7th mission since 2007 (November 4 to 13, 2019).

Equipment teams will organize the medical site of the Coast Guard base, Admiral Killick Base in Bizoton (Carrefour) "This will require boats and helicopters, which is normal for medical missions and the public does not have to alarm. Medical services will begin as of November 6th," said the US Embassy in Haiti.

Medical teams from the USNS Comfort will work alongside Haitian professionals to provide a variety of medical services to adults and children.

In addition, basic surgical care will be provided on board the hospital ship. In addition, several medical professionals from other partner nations have embarked on the Comfort and are partnering with this effort to provide medical care to patients throughout the region.

  • Free medical services by the Comfort Medical Mission will include: Family medicine, preventive medicine, dental exams and dental treatments, optometry (eye exams), pediatrics, dermatology, women’s health and physical therapy ;

  • The patients for surgeries have already been pre-selected by the Ministry of Health as they have been placed on waiting lists to receive much-needed care. Unfortunately, the medical mission cannot accommodate additional patients for surgery during this mission ;

  • Other services will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at Coast Guard Base Killick ;

  • The medical site is for patients only. To ensure their safety and that the medical teams can treat as many patients as possible, we ask that those who are not seeking treatment refrain from accessing the site ;

  • The medical teams can only see a limited number of patients per day. Hours of operation for the medical site is from 08:00 AM to 4:00 PM, however, the lines to register for services will be cut off at 10:00 AM or when the teams reach capacity.
