Haiti - Technology : World Telecommunication Day
Today, May 17 is the World Telecommunications Day. On this occasion, the Monique Calixte Library [in the premises of the Fokal Cultural Center on Avenue Christophe] offers the public a set of activities that will take place until May 21.

The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated each year on May 17. Its goal is to contribute to raise awareness to the possibilities that the use of the Internet and Information and communications technology (ICT) in economic and social areas, as well as ways to reduce the digital divide.

An exhibition on telecommunications will be presented in the atrium of the Fokal. It will trace the history of telecommunications, the presentation of various telecommunication tools. This exhibition will be present throughout the celebration period, from Tuesday 17 to Saturday, May 21.

This Tuesday at 2:00 pm, the public will attend the screening of American film, "The Social Network" (social network) by David Fincher and a talk about the new information technologies.

Thursday at 3:30 pm, the movie "Eagle Eye" will be screened, a fictional of D. J. Caruso, which is a scenario or two characters followed in their every move by an unknown women by using technology. This projection will take place in the multipurpose room Fokal Unesco.

Saturday, May 21 at 11:30 am, in the conference room, a talk will be held on the use and limitations of social networks. The public can share experiences and viewpoints around the subject.

Some training sessions aiming to the introduction to computer and internet are are planned for youth 8 to 13 years. These young, members of the Monique Calixte Library, will benefit of the framework of the animators of cybercafe. This training will take place on Saturday 21, May 28 and June 4 in the cybercafe of the Fokal. The inscriptions will be received at the Monique Calixte Library.

The Monique Calixte Library, privileged access to information is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
