Haiti - WEATHER ALERT : Heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms...
The axe of the surface trough this morning is located more to the east, a little more in the channel of the Mona ie between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. The upper flow will continue to push the moist air mass (associated with this trough) on the Caribbean Sea toward Haiti during the weekend. Following the daytime heating and the presence of this "wet field" (champ humide) on Haiti heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected across the country today, Sunday and Monday.

Due to the cumulative rainfall already registered and facing the supersaturation of the soil, the Permanent Secretariat for Risk Management and Disaster (SPGRD) maintains this Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10 am the phase of alert to the level of orange vigilance (ie impact risk of moderate to severe) to heavy rains and announces the launch of National Plan for Risk Management and Disaster (PNGRD) face to the threats of heavy rain with risk of river flood, rockfalls, landslide, collapse and flooding for all departments including the West, Artibonite, South-East, North-West, North and North-East.

The National Meteorological Center (CNM) in conjunction with the DPC and the SPGRD ask the population of the areas at risk of rockfalls, landslides and flooding, to stay vigilant and strictly implement the following safety guidelines.
