Haiti - Social : Center of Legal Assistance and Conflict Mediation
Yesterday Thursday, has been inaugurated a Center of Legal Assistance and Conflict Mediation, at the local "KAY NOU", in the neighborhood of Bel Air, Port-au-Prince. In this building of 235 m2 there will be firstly a service of legal assistance managed by the Legal Assistance Consortium (ILAC), and a mediation service which will be coordinated by the Brazilian NGO Viva Rio who works in the neighborhood of Bel Air, and, whose objective is to try to resolve community conflicts.

Last week the NGO Viva Rio had signed the fifth Peace Accord, thanks to the Peace Accord signed annually, the violence has significantly decreased in the area. The 2011 Peace Accord brings together the National Police of Haiti, the RVC, the Minustah, Viva Rio, the town halls of Port-au-Prince, of Cité Soleil and of Delmas, the liaison officers, and 105 community leaders (28 more than last year) volunteers to get involved in their community, coming from various sectors of civil society, women and men, young and elderly. Their work will be organized into three committees, namely a board of mediation and of conflict resolution, a commission development of projects and a commission to fight against gender violence.

The Center of Legal Assistance and Conflict Mediation has cost USD$200.000, this amount was used in part for the construction of the building and will also be used to pay a dozen of jurist within the framework of legal assistance.
