Haiti - Social : Organizations of women against the closure of their Ministry
The organization Kay Fanm said in a statement be in favour of the maintaining of the Ministry for Women and Women's Rights (MCFDF) which could eventually disappear. Daniel Gérard Rouzier, the Prime Minister-designate had announced several changes https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-3035-haiti-politic-rouzier-announces-changes-in-the-ministries.html that will be made by his government, at the level of ministries if he passes the course of parliamentary approval, including one which concerns the MCFDF, which would be integrated with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (MAST).

"The team of President Michel Martelly does not even take the trouble to explain what might justify the decision to close the ministry for Women. Beyond the precautions of language, this is well of disappearance on the national political scene that it is question, Mr. Daniel-Gérard Rouzier, declares that the Ministry for Women and Women's Rights will be integrated into the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (MAST), without any detail on the nature of the structure in question" deplores the statement endorsed by 22 organizations of women.

"Why this desire to deprive the country of a policy instrument that helped make significant progress in terms of equality of rights for 52% of the population?"

According to the same statement various reasons have been advanced previously to pretend close the Ministry for Women and Women's Rights : the availability of funding, inefficiency and the uselessness.

Concerning the first point, the availability of funding, the statement stresses that "For 2010-2011, the budget of MCFDF was approximately 37 million Gourds. These amounts could not in any way take out the country of its economic doldrums." regarding the ineffectiveness it is explained that "The Ministry for Women and Women's Rights accuses certainly shortcomings, like all other institutions of the state apparatus: Presidency, Primature parliament, judiciary, ministries, municipalities, local authorities and independent institutions such as the Electoral Council, etc..." adding among other things that "Illiteracy and education at discounts are obvious phenomena. Illiteracy affects more women and girls. Most women give birth without medical assistance. Maternal mortality is one of the highest in the world. Female lone-parent families are legion in the country. etc..."

Regarding the latter point, the uselessness it is written that "The existence of the Ministry for Women is justified by the need to take into account, to the "highest Summit" of the State, the gender relations and their impact in all areas. The ministry's mission is to promote and defend the rights of womens/girls and, thereby, to contribute to creating a better social cohesion. This through the definition and implementation of public policies and programs for gender equality, the fight against gender violence and the feminization of poverty, and while ensuring the crosscutting nature of these guidelines in governmental action. This meets the requirements of the Constitution of 1987 and the commitments took by Haiti by signing international conventions on human rights and to the specific rights of women and girls, as individuals and citizens.

"If it is really like likes to declare the President Martelly, to redress the state and to work towards the construction of a society based on law and respect for human rights, it is important that the Ministry for Women plays completely its role, and to be strengthened in its capacity for the full realization of its mission" adding that "The women's rights activists that feminists are, dream of the day where the Ministry for Women will no longer be necessary..."
