Haiti - Humanitarian : The American athlete Carl Lewis soon in Haiti
The internationally renowned American athlete, Carl Lewis, will conduct an official visit to Haiti from June 13 to 14, 2011, in his quality of Goodwill Ambassador of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization).

The visit in Haiti of Mr. Lewis seeks to follow up the initiative "Fruit Trees for Haiti" launched in March 2010 by the Director General of the FAO, Mr. Jacques Diouf. It also aims to promote the International Year of Forests 2011, and the "Race against Hunger" as part of activities planned to mark the World Day of Food.

During his stay in Haiti, Carl Lewis will be received in audience by the President Michel Martelly. Then he will visit the town of Léogâne, for an assessment of the progress of the Technical Cooperation Programme of the FAO, which aims to ensuring food security, watershed stabilization and reforestation. He will meet with farm families, will distribute seedlings of fruit to school pupils and he will start the foot race of 100 meters of the champions of schools to the Institution Saint Louis de Gonzague in Delmas 31-33.
