Haiti - Culture : Livres en folie 2011, an exceptional edition 13/06/2011 15:42:15
17 years later, what became "Livres en folie 2011" gives vertigo... one hundred thirty-five authors will be in "Book Signing/Sale", over 100 new literature will be presented to the public, but also, conference, discussions and public readings, theater, film, training workshops, photo exhibitions and new publishing technology will be to the program, from June 16 to July 1st, 2011, of this major event, now become inescapable. Edwidge Danticat will be the guest of honor at this 2011 edition. First Haitian of origin, to have known the success in English in the United States of America, before being translated into French [France] and then republished in Haiti, her presence marks a turning point in the history of this literary event, since this year, the English language will be present in addition to French or Creole and next year, the organizers assured us that all languages will be welcome. A hundred works of Haitian authors writing in English will be presented at a public exhibition in the library of the Fokal. Two plays will be presented to the public whose "Ayiti" with actor Daniel Marcelin, as well that two movies "Bondye Bon", a film of Arnaud Robert and of Ian Jaquiet and "Une étrange cathédrale dans la graisse des ténèbres", a film of Charles Najman, an evocation of the terrible earthquake that devastated the capital through the voice of the greatest living Haitian poet, Frankétienne. Filmed in the great cathedral in ruins of Port-au-Prince, the film is a song of life and death. "I do not bring peace" warns Frankétienne... For purposes of the film, Frankétienne, wanders in reciting his verses, women turn to Jesus in Creole, children play, young men come to retrieve materials. Yes, the country is a reflection of this cathedral in ruins. Yes, we can wonder about the silence of God... Angry Frankétienne, who once wrote "I'm still the master of my meaningless words", vociferates now that writing, are "fly excrement" and that "all metaphors are crazy..." Two photography exhibits are also on the agenda "Haïti avant l'orage" by photographer Olivier Beytout, and an exhibition at the Parc historique de la Canne à Sucre, from photo gathered by photographer Frederick Dupoux, who worked with disadvantaged youth in the project Fotokombit. Great innovation this year, the formation, with workshops around the trades of the book, on writing stories for children, binding, the initiation to careers of the edition and proofreading. Livres en Folie 2011, is undoubtedly a vintage, that the organizers will be able to reinvent in 2012 [as each year], to reach new summit, for the enjoyment of the people and the promotion of our culture beyond our borders.
