Haiti - Sports : Towards the improvement of relations between the Ministry and the Haitian Olympic Committee
Ronald Gérard D'Mézard, the Minister of Youth and Sports met with Dr. Hans Larsen, President of the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH) in order to define the main axes of cooperation between the two bodies for the benefit of sport in general and athletes in particular.

After presenting his congratulations to the newly elected COH committee, Minister D’Mézard expressed his willingness to improve relations between the two institutions and reiterated his commitment to work for the benefit of sport.

The meeting took place around the following points:

  • A memorandum of understanding on the actual organization of sport and special attention to sports disciplines likely to perform in international competitions;
  • The preparation and participation of Haitian athletes in the Tokyo Olympic Games;
  • Haiti’s participation in the Youth Olympic Games in Cali;
  • Joint support for high-level sport;
  • Funding and accountability issues;
  • The remuneration of technical directors of certain national sports federations and associations;
  • Support for the ministry in the organization in 2021 of training courses in two (2) departments;
  • The interest of the private sector in sport;
  • The holding of a reflection on sport through a conference for a framework document on the current realities of sport
  • Minister Ronald Gérard D’Mézard took note of the various proposals made by the COH and requested a project document to study their implementation with MJSAC officials.

The actual practice of sport in working-class neighborhoods throughout the territory was also mentioned and enabled the two parties to define realistic strategies promoting a rational practice of sport and facilitating the development of the sector.
