Haiti - Health : «Sonje Ayiti» contributes to the sanitation of Limonade
Sonje Ayiti, an organization working in the health sector and of development in Haiti since 2006, has inaugurated during the weekend, a new project in the commune of Limonade, which consists to equip this commune of 5 composting toilets and rehabilitate 25 water points.

In presence of Mayor of Limonade, Jean Delavoix Manguira, representatives of the DINEPA, Ferne Jean, of UNPD, Kamina Ntenda, of MSPP and the inhabitants of Limonade, the responsibles of Sonje Ayiti have launched the work. This project comes at a time where this commune is facing to an increase in cholera cases, which since its appearance, is at a critical stage in some communal sections as Chavanno and Bois de Lance.

"This great project will really help and contribute to the development of Limonade," said the Mayor of Limonade, which was proud to work in agreement, with the responsible organization and supports the thesis that says "nothing is lost, everything is transformed." According to the mayor, through these composting toilets "Manje fè twalèt, Twalèt fè manje" to explain that now, farmers and people will make good use of their waste.

Kamina Ntenda, UNDP Director for the region, believes that this pilot project, depending on its success, will serve as a prototype for other regions of the country experiencing such a situation. This program lasting four months, in addition to the installation of toilets, also includes an educational component on cholera and other diseases caused by unsanitary conditions.

UNDP-funded for a total of about USD$120.000, it is run by Sonje Ayiti as part of the emergency programs. Marie Gabrielle Vincent, Head of Sonje Ayiti, is pleased to be able to develop this project, for the benefit of lemonade, which, according to her, is in great difficulty face the sanitary needs, indicating that this project will contribute to the sanitation of the commune.

Some residents at the scene of the launch, argue that this project is welcome in the region, an opportunity to get a job at the same time, to participate in the sanitation in their region. They denounce the fact that no action are taken to preserve the image of the commune, which is devoid, as many communes, of a landfill site, which results to mountains of rubbish here and there.
