Haiti - Culture : Weeks of scientific cinema (from July 18 to 29, 2011)
During the week of July 18 to 23 and that of July 25 to 30, 2011, will be presented in three entities of the State University of Haiti : the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS), the Institut Supérieur d’Etudes et de Recherches en Sciences Sociales (ISERSS/IERAH) et la Faculté d'Ethnologie (FE), the films of research that have been presented to 3rd Annual International Research Film Culture, Diapora and Citizenship Festival, organized in Toronto and Quebec by the Network Slavery, Memory and Citizenship research network (The Harriet Tubman Institute/York University, CELAT/Université Laval, CIRESC/CNRS, LABHOI/Universidade Federal Fluminense). The screenings will be accompanied by conferences on themes related to the memory of slavery and its teaching.

Monday, July 18, 2011 :
Film (2010) "La passion d’un pays" (The passion of a country) of Antonin Arnold and Jacques Roumain (114 minutes, fiction, English, French and Spanish)

Conference of Rina Caceres (1 hour, ENS)
From 18 to 29 July 2011, Professor Rina Cáceres Gómez of the University of Costa Rica to UEH will host together with Professor Paul Lovejoy, a seminar on "Out of Africa: Atlantic Migration during Slavery" to the Institut d'Etudes et de Recherches Africaines d"Haïti - Institut Supérieur d'Etudes et de Recherches en Sciences Sociales (IERAH - ISERSS). The seminar starts this Monday July 18, at 9.00am. She will deliver at 1:00pm the same day, at the ENS, the inaugural conference of the weeks of scientific cinema entitled "We the black Generals. From Haiti to Central America, the long road to freedom, 1792 - 1800".

Conference of Marc Désir (1 hour, ISERSS-IERAH) "For a deepening of the history of the slave trade and slavery in New Secondary, in Haiti"

Conference of Paul Lovejoy (1 hour, FE)
Memorializing Slavery and the Slave Trade in "Freedom Narratives"
From July 15 to 31, 2011, the distinguished Professor Paul E Lovejoy, of the Department of History at York University, Toronto, Canada, will be in mission to the State University of Haiti (UEH). This mission is specifically designed to strengthen ties between the ENS, the IERAH-ISERSS and the Harriet Tubman Institute for Research on the Global Migrations of African Peoples whose the Professor Lovejoy is the Executive Director.
