Haiti - Social : The Mayor of Port-au-Prince launches the Operation «Sidewalks Free»
At a press conference last Friday, Jean Yves Jason, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince has announced that "together with the new presidency [...] we launched the operation "Sidewalks free". It is necessary that the sidewalks are cleared. It is necessary that we can circulate, the sidewalks are not designed for merchants..." To this end, an awareness campaign will be conducted among the small traders, from July 29 to August 5, mainly around the stadium Sylvio Cator [for the moment].

"These merchants must go" informed the Mayor, which launched an appeal to the citizens, local elected officials and civil society to pull themselves together "Because the other Port-au-Prince that we want, we must build it together."

On the other hand, the Mayor indicated that the Town Hall of Port-au-Prince intended to continue moving operations, particularly those living in the six camps, so-called priority [classified red] and that he intended to further coordinate its actions with the Presidency and the various humanitarian actors. On this last point, Jean Yves Jason, has announced that a meeting was scheduled for tomorrow Tuesday, with the various humanitarian organizations concerned.
