Haiti - Economy : Board members of the BNC evaluated by a Senate Committee
The President Michel Martelly had conducted July 19 to the renewal of the Board of the Banque Nationale de Credit (BNC) and to the appointment of Vice-President Jean Philippe Vixamar as President to succeed to Guiteau Toussaint assassinated on June 12. The persons concerned by this appointment and reappointment, should be heard by the Senate Committee on Economy and Finance.

It is in this framework, that the Commission, presided by the Senator Jocelerme Privert, has welcomed last Thursday, the persons concerned. Philippe Vixamar has presented the five members of the Board of Directors of the BNC to the Commission, explaining that according to him, they are experienced to continue to drive the destiny of the bank.

The President of the Commission, stressed the need to assess the ability of this new team, explaining that the members of the Board shall, during these hearings, demonstrate their management skills, noting that the Commission had already wrote a favorable report on 4 of them.

The program "Kay Pam" is also discussed. Philippe Vixamar took the opportunity to put an end to rumors which suggested that the employees earning less than 25,000 gourds per month [±USD$550] would not have access to this program. He explained that the access to credit is open to any employee, of the public or private sector, or socio-professional, who has a steady job and a guaranteed income for at least three years. Stressing that the amount of credit, dependent of its use and that it will be proportional to the salary of the applicant.

The Commission will continue its hearings next Tuesday and will submit its report and recommendations to the Senators who will have to approve or reject it.
