Haiti - FLASH - Message to the Nation from Prime Minister Henry (Video)
Friday, March 18, 2022, from his official residence, Prime Minister ai Ariel Henry addressed the Nation, declaring "[...] The country risks suffering a strong impact due to the war that has broken out between Russia and the Ukraine. It's starting to drive up all the prices around the world and here in our country."

He recalled that before the conflict the adjustment in fuel prices was based on a barrel of oil at 85 dollars whereas today the barrel is down to 125 dollars underlining "[...] This will cause us a lot of difficulties and we know another big adjustment cannot be made," indicating that he was working with his government to see how to handle the situation.

Henry referred to aid to the poorest, emphasizing that the country must do everything possible to ensure that much more money reaches the coffers of the Public Treasury, saying "The State loses more than 1 billion dollars each year at the level of customs and the General Directorate of Taxes. To all those who smuggle and to those who do not pay their taxes, I say that we cannot let people perish [...]"

He recalled that last week, Haiti had started talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and estimated that an agreement with the IMF should be concluded in the coming days, stressing "[...] After the signing of the agreement, all international or bilateral financial institutions that have stopped helping Haiti will be able to support us again."

Referring to insecurity The Head of Government said "[...] insecurity and kidnappings are our two biggest concerns, which cause a lot of stress and consume all the savings a person has and even make us spend what we do not have. » Believing that the State must regain control of the national territory "It's too much. Fear must change sides".

On the political level, he affirmed "[...] since I took office. I continue to extend my hand to all my compatriots who want to see Haiti emerge from the crisis in which it finds itself [...] I launch a solemn appeal to all political parties, including, in particular, the compatriots of the agreement of Montana and those of Pennsylvania accord [...] to the formal and informal private sector, to the religious sector, to civil society in general, that all come together to build a broad consensus on fundamental questions for the future of the country."
