Haiti - Social : New Market, Project Village of Hope, Irrigation, Education - Martelly 02/09/2011 14:41:48
Wednesday the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly visited the town of Saint-Michel-de-l'Attalaye, in the department of Artibonite, during his visit has officially launched the agricultural colony "Village of Hope" to savane Diane, a commune located a few kilometers. This construction project of 200 houses, funded by the Taiwanese to the tune of USD$5 millions, must accommodate 200 families of the region by the end of August 2012. This market, one of the largest market in the country, built on a carreau and a half [19,150m2] has been funded by the Treasury and has created nearly 200 jobs at its construction. Satisfied with the progress of the Head of State despite the absence of a Prime Minister, the Mayor of Saint-Raphaël Antiocus Robert François encourages the people to continue to accompany the President of the Republic in its efforts for development. Irrigation of 5000 hectares The President of the Republic has announced a major project which consists to irrigate five thousand acres of land in the North. This new irrigation project was announced Wednesday was submitted by the Presidency to the attention of Taiwan's cooperation for funding. It represents the first major agricultural project of the mandate of the Head of State to gradually out of the rain-fed agriculture in accordance with the President's vision. Taiwan's technical mission of assessment is already in place and is working with the Haitian technicians. Free education in four schools In addition, the President Martelly took advantage of his tour to announce the integration of four new schools, in St-Michel and to St-Raphaël, in its program of free education for this year. An official ceremony is scheduled this Friday to the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training for the implementation of this program as expected by the population.
