Haiti - Justice : The student-magistrates of the 7th promotion received by the Minister Prophète-Milcé
Friday, December 16, 2022, after meeting the 18 Chief Prosecutors of the jurisdictions of Haiti and members of several human rights organizations, Émmelie Prophète-Milcé, Acting Minister of Justice met with graduates of the 7th promotion of the School of Magistracy (EMA).

Numbering 55 in total, these student magistrates have been awaiting their appointment in the Haitian judiciary since April 2022, the date on which they graduated.

In her speech, the Minister a.i. Prophète-Milcé crowned the student-magistrates with compliments for their career at the EMA while drawing their attention to the responsibilities that are theirs in having chosen the judiciary as a career.

"We need new blood in the administration of justice. It is necessary that the magistrates who are appointed in the name of the Law are indeed professionals who have received high-level training to exercise this profession," hammered the Minister, pleading in favor of a judiciary based on ethics, the fairness and integrity.

Speaking during the meeting, the former Commissioner of the Government of Port-au-Prince Me Paul Eronce Villard, Director of Cabinet of the Minister, stressed that the magistrate must inspire confidence in the litigants affirming that Haiti needs women and men of conviction to administer and dispense justice.

Reacting in turn, the student-magistrates were full of praise for the Minister for her commitment as a Stateswoman to change the face of justice in Haiti. Nevertheless, some of them have expressed concern about their appointment letter which they have been waiting for now for more than 8 months.
