Haiti - Politic : The G16, still divided after the meeting with Dr. Conille
The Group of 16 Senators who constitute the majority in the Senate (G16), has had yesterday Thursday, a meeting of several hours at the headquarters of the platform INITE [Canapé Vert], with the Prime Minister-designate, Dr. Garry Conille. It was question essentially for the G16 to obtain political concessions, as part of sharing of responsibilities, in exchange for a favorable vote of ratification.

Leaving the meeting, Dr. Garry Conille, was very pleased, refusing to comment on the meeting, he invited journalists to interview the Senators arguing for his part that "... it was an excellent meeting I am very pleased of discussions, and I'm out of that meeting really really satisfied [...] we discussed many things [...] I am always very confident as from the beginning..."

The Senator Evalière Beauplan [member of the G16] determines a vote in favor to a sharing of responsibility. Aware that the sovereign ministries are out of reach, the senator said that negotiations were not limited to ministerial positions, but also included the directorates general, the positions of secretary of state, charges d'affaires, of ambassadors and positions in diplomatic missions of Haiti, saying that the G16 could easily get the Ministry of Agriculture in the new government.

Despite this long meeting, some members of the group, still do not seem convinced of the explanation of Prime Minister-designate and it has not been possible to unify the positions of Senators of the G16 in favor of the candidate. The Senator Beauplan estimates nevertheless that 60% of members of the majority group will vote in favor of the ratification of Mr. Conille. Announcing after the meeting that the group would meet to find a compromise and avoid division. According to our latest information on Thursday night, the group had not been able to reach a common position.

The Senator Moise Jean Charles (INITE) member of the Commission responsible for checking the documents of of the Prime Minister-designate, declared that vote of Senate will be highly political "...Dr. Conille will not benefit of a technical vote in the Senate of the Republic, this will be a political vote because the documents do not comply with the Article 157 of the Constitution of 1987 [...] a meeting just took place, there have been discussions and I told him clearly that I do not know yet if I will vote for him... [...] I made a visit to the ONI and to the Town Hall of Petion-ville, Garry Conille does not meet all the conditions [...] I found that Mr. Garry Conille had never voted, he rushed to make an application for identification card because he had been appointed as Prime Minister, it is not it is not even registered in the system, that's what I saw, and I said it... [...] Garry Conille does not meet all the requirements to become Prime Minister, however, as the vote will take place before a political assembly, you can have a political vote for or against..." According to Senator Moïse, more optimistic than Senator Beauplan 75% of elected of G-16 would be in favor of the candidate for Prime Minister and that the G16 will bring to light its contradictions.

Contrary to what he said yesterday, the Senator Dieuseul Simon Desras, President of the Commission responsible for analyzing the documents, who stated that the work of the Commission was finished, that the file would be submitted Thursday afternoon, that it did not contain recommendations for or against the ratification of the Prime Minister and that that all members had signed the report, it seems that the reality of Thursday is different. The commission would have difficulty to submit its report because of objections raised against the recommendations in favor of Dr. Conille. Some members of the commission would refuse to sign the [new ?] report in the version proposed...
