Haiti - Education : Towards the transformation of the Haitian education system
The Ministry of National Education with the support of its partners, in particular the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is organizing this week in Karibe Hotel, a five-day workshop https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39280-haiti-news-zapping.html on the transformation of the education system through curriculum reform.

Inaugurating the opening works, the Minister of Education Nesmy Manigat drew attention to the need to focus on the transformation of education in the country, proving to be one of the emergencies. "The transformation of education is synonymous with the transformation of citizens for a fairer and more equitable society," he stressed.

According to Manigat, this exercise, which aims for a common understanding and vision of the curriculum, has five major aspects for the Ministry, which is working for an endogenous curriculum. He quoted with supporting details : science, culture, geography, regional and international recognition of diplomas, but also the adequacy of the curriculum to the needs of the country "I leave these five dimensions to you as food for thought at the course of this workshop while knowing that the curriculum is practically the tool that allows us to understand each other and to measure the efforts of parents in society to send their children to school."

For her part, Tatiana Villegas, the representative of UNESCO in Haiti, said she was "convinced that at the end of the work of this workshop, the bases of a solid reflection articulated around the objectives of the national authorities, will be developed and will make it possible to move forward methodically and surely in the implementation of the reform."

For his part, Amapola Alama who read the speech for the occasion by Mr. Yao Ydo, Director of the International Bureau of Education, welcomed the holding of this workshop "[...] This approach is at the heart of the strategies for promotion of endogenous curricula, emphasizing 21st century skills for the transformation of education in a rapidly changing global context," asserting "Across the world, curricula are at the center of discussions, because education does not can be transformed only if the curricula are transformed, adapted to the local and global context and also improved."

Speaking by video conference Marie Evane Tamagnan, the representative of the IDB underlined the national context which led the MENFP towards this curricular reform. She highlighted the challenges that this action should face and reiterated the IDB's commitment to continue to provide its financial support for the success of this major project.

This workshop aims to strengthen the skills of MENFP agents and the various parties involved in the educational chain, in terms of curriculum diagnosis so that they support the production by the International Bureau of Education of the State Report while guaranteeing the alignment with the Curricular Orientation Framework and the relevance of the documents that will be developed or revised during the project.
