Haiti - Social : More than 8 out of 10 young Haitians are ready to support girls' rights (U-Report Survey) 20/10/2023 11:57:59 The U-Report survey showed young people are ready to commit to girls' rights and encourage them to play an active role in the community. Among the respondents, 73% of young people believe that there are significant differences between the abilities of girls/women and boys/men. However, these differences are not necessarily linked to intrinsic abilities. Some young people pointed out that girls face more pressure in today's society, sometimes feeling more vulnerable than boys. This observation is supported by the fact that 78% of participants think that men generally behave differently when it comes to violence. According to Sabrina, men often harm women, especially in the context of crisis. There is a deep gap between reality and stereotypes, where differences between men and women are often the result of social, cultural and environmental factors. However, in an ever-changing society, more and more young people believe in gender equality. During the survey, 65% of young people are aware that girls/women have the capacity to play the same roles as boys/men within society. Some young people point out that women work to provide for their families and are present in various fields such as sports, the military, entrepreneurship, and many others. They believe that women can accomplish anything they put their mind to. To combat preconceived ideas, 33% of boys say they are ready to defend women's rights, and 31% of them are ready to morally support girls to help them realize their full potential. In the effort to promote gender equality, men and boys are encouraged to commit to the equality, empowerment and development of women and girls, while opposing to any form of violence against them. In the community, U-Reporters focus on promoting nonviolence, raising awareness of the consequences of violence, and education aimed at changing social norms that condone or encourage violence, while recognizing the uniqueness of each individual.
