Haiti - Culture : «The Academy of Haitian Creole: issues, challenges and prospects»
This Wednesday October 26 will open the international colloquium on "The Academy of Haitian Creole: issues, challenges and prospects" by an official ceremony attended by leading figures from the State, Civil Society and the University. Addresses by representatives of the Government, Parliament, of the ATI National and the Rector of the UEH are planned for the circumstances [Convention Center, October 27, 28 29, 2011].

The main objective of this colloquium, initiated by the Action Committee for the establishment of the Haitian Academy (Jounal Bòn Nouvèl, Presses Nationales d'Haiti, Secretary of State for Literacy, Konfederasyon Nasyonal Vodouyizan Ayisyen, State University of Haiti) is to lay the concrete foundations for the full implementation of the prescribed constitutional relating to the valuation of the national language of Haiti and provide the nation with relevant instruments for its promotion and development.

This colloquium intends to open a space of reflection in order to provide concrete proposals and advised on the establishment of the Academy of Haitian Creole. This academic effort and scientific meet the urgency of debate and discussion, of focus and clarification of points of view on a social problem on which the Haitian people acted through the Constitution of 1987 : the institution of the "Haitian Academy" of the Creole language.

Given the language issue and the problems in Haiti, and the problems which emerges of it, the initiative committee for the establishment of the Haitian Academy addresses the constitutional prescribed like the formulation of legal and administrative basis for a language policy while taking into account and questioning on the difficulties of establishing the Academy. This colloquium is a great opportunity, we think, to reflect on its mission, its mandate, its organization, its orientation. In this perspective, we ask us the following question that seems likely to focus our thoughts on the creation of this institution, "What Creole What for Haiti, even for which region and in which world ?"

These reflections and debates around the creation of the Academy, in favor of this international colloquium can be a prerequisite for the development of a "créolophonie" scientific and linguistic-cultural, which one of the goals may be the promotion, the expansion and scientific and cultural development of Creole in question, in consideration of the new information technologies and communication.

The question of Creole, highly political issue, since speaking a language is to "share a common good" will be the main purpose of this scientific event, bringing together, at the Caribe Convention Center for three days (October 27, 28 and 29, 2011) leading Haitian and foreign researchers.

The work of the colloquium will begin with a lecture of Professor and linguist Yves Déjean, one of the Haitian pioneers of "Creole studies." Note the presence in this conference of Mgr. Pierre Antoine Paulo, Bishop of Port-de-Paix and President of the Episcopal Conference for the Bible Translation, of Michel Hector, Historian, Professor and former member of the Executive Council of the UEH, of Vinesh Hookoomsing, President of the Academy of Mauritian Creole, of Michel Desgraff, Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), of Renauld Govain, Professor at the State University of Haiti and member of of Raymond Noel, Professor at the Faculty of Sciences UEH, of Lemète Zéphyr, Professor at the Faculty of Applied Linguistics of the UEH, of Rochambeau Lainy, PhD in linguistics from the University of Rouen and a large number of researchers both Haitian and foreign of various disciplines of social sciences.
