Haiti - 220th anniversary of independence : BOJNUAH invites Haitians to raise awareness...
The Office of the United Nations Youth Organization of Africa in Haiti (BOJNUAH), celebrated the proclamation of the independence of Haiti (January 1st) after the victory of the slaves of the colony of Santo Domingo on Napoleon Bonaparte's troops during the Battle of Vertières on November 18, 1803.

"After a bloody and merciless war marked by the marooning of slaves for their liberation, Haiti officially declared its independence on January 1st, 1804. This independence constitutes an important chapter in the history of humanity seen as Haiti (Mother of Liberty), is the precursor of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen promulgated a few years earlier, in 1789. The independence of Haiti also sensitized the United Nations to promulgate in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. A founding member of the United Nations, it should be noted that Haiti has always positioned itself on the side of Law, having always been among one of the first Nations to recognize the existence of countries such as Libya and the State of Israel.

This sacred land has always been recognized as the land of Liberty, because anyone who has set foot on the soil of Haiti is automatically free. This great Nation actively participated in the independence and emancipation of several peoples in the world including Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, without forgetting the United States of America in 1779. Haiti even helped the Greece by providing foodstuffs and by being among the first countries to recognize the Greek Revolution of 1821 against the Ottoman Empire."

Amos Cincir, Special Representative of BOJNUAH, believes that January 1st is a special opportunity for Haitian youth, the political and economic elites and the country's intelligentsia to reflect deeply on this historic and glorious past of our dear Homeland. According to him, on the sidelines of these 220 years marked by the collapse of the Haitian State, "it is an opportunity to seize in order to make the appropriate and adequate decisions to remake the image of this Nation, which in the past has rocks history around the world through monumental and sovereign stands in favor of human rights. Haiti has not always been the pariah country people try to convince us to be. It is a fighting and resilient Nation with a people worthy of its name."

Furthermore, he took the opportunity to invite Haitian leaders to "become aware of the enormous sacrifices made by the founding fathers of the Haitian Nation and to act accordingly in order to honor our ancestors who sacrificed everything for the freedom of our people, as well as the freedom of all other oppressed peoples." He encourages them above all "to show empathy, vision, good faith towards these people who have suffered for several decades."
