Haiti - Mexico : Around 110,000 Haitians in difficulty (Video)
Haitians occupy first place in terms of migration with the greatest number of men, women and children arriving in Mexico where there are at least 110,000 Haitian migrants including 45,000 who have been residing in Mexico for several months.

During a press conference in the square located in the district of Juárez, converted into a camp Wilner Metelus of Haitian origin, President of the Citizen Committee for the Defense of Naturalized and Afro-Mexicans, called on the Federal Government of Mexico to grant them a humanitarian visa or provide them with documents to regularize their stay which would allow them to work legally, recalling that the intention of these Haitians is to stay in Mexico and not to continue their journey to the United States.

He stressed that the number of Haitian migrants is constantly increasing "because the situation is very difficult in Haiti and people are suffering a lot."

Metelus also asked the Head of Government, Martí Batres, to order the installation of portable toilets "We have Haitian brothers who have gone several days without washing, there is no water; we have children who have problems, illnesses and sometimes they have nothing to eat. It's a shame for our country," adding that the migrants on the square "are young people, pregnant women, there are children, they are people who do not have the possibility of renting a room to live with their family, they do not have economic resources to eat [...] We ask for unity, solidarity of all for the benefit of our Haitian migrant brothers, I ask Mexican brothers to continue to help our Haitian brothers."

In addition to the square camp located in the Juárez camp district, he indicated that there are other camps and groups of Haitians, notably in Tláhuac near the La Merced market, in the Cafemin hostel, near the Misterios metro station, as well as in the municipalities of Ecatepec, Chalco, Nezahualcóyotl and Tecámac, in the State of Mexico…

Finally he announced that on Friday January 12, 2024, a wreath of flowers will be placed on Giordano Bruno Square, 13 years after the earthquake which devastated Haiti in memory of the hundreds of thousands of victims.
