Haiti - Security Alert : U.S. Embassy, Port-au-Prince
Multiple locations in Port-au-Prince are experiencing gang-related violence including intense, sometimes sustained gunfire, armed confrontations between gangs and police and security forces, barricades and other traffic disruption. Gang-related violence is impacting security and operations at critical infrastructure including the airport and main seaport. Recent gunfire and gang-related violence is also occuring regularly in areas surrounding the U.S. Embassy.

Due to these events and a recent increase in reports of civil unrest, the U.S. Embassy continues to advise all U.S. citizens to not travel to Haiti. U.S. citizens already in Haiti are advised to exercise extreme caution in areas where gang-related or other violence is taking place and avoid demonstrations or other large gatherings.

Recent events indicate that the current security situation in Port-au-Prince remains very unpredictable. The current wave of gang-related violence may cause delays or disruption of Embassy operations, and may negatively impact the ability of the Embassy to provide routine, scheduled, or emergency consular services.
