Haiti - Reconstruction : Martelly - Carter at the Village of Santo, Léogâne 09/11/2011 09:50:23 The President of the Republic, while thanking Mr. Carter for his leadership and his motivation to change people's lives in Haiti and around the world, sees in this project the initiation of the first phases of construction of permanent housing in favor of the homeless families of Léogâne. However, he said, recognize that the real action should focus on the central infrastructure of the country, including the construction of hospitals, health centers, roads, airports... A large workforce of about 500 volunteers regimented by Habitat for Humanity and about fifty Haitian technicians come in support to the construction of the Village of Santo. "When we saw the extent of damage caused by the earthquake of January 12, we decided to act and are today determined to assist Haitians to rebuild their communities," said the former head of State Jimmy Carter proud of the project despite its small size "There are hundreds of thousands of people in Haiti who have no homes and Habitat on this site plans to build only 500 houses. So we will build 150 homes this year and will be back next year to finish the 500 homes," he promised. The President of the Republic of Haiti, Michel Martelly thank all stakeholders who contribute to the relocation of victims in Haiti, including Mrs. Rosalynn Carter for her compassion, and her husband, Jimmy Carter for his participation over time, in various negotiations for the establishment of peace both in Haiti and abroad. "We also need investment, permanent jobs," concluded the Head of State of Haiti who took the opportunity to invite foreign dignitaries to cast another look at Haiti and invest.
