Haiti - Education : Laurent Lamothe announces the purchase of new school buses 10/11/2011 09:52:24
This donation will be used to purchase buses to strengthen the program of free school transport initiated last month by the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly. "I thank the people of Thailand and its Ambassador. It is a pleasure and an honor for me to be here today to receive this gift that will be directly used in the purchase of school buses for the benefit of our children" said with satisfaction on this occasion, the Chancellor Lamothe. "...Thailand helps enormously Haiti since the earthquake of January 2010, over 21.8 million dollars was given to Haiti, more than 10,000 tons of rice were sent from the Kingdom of Thailand in Haiti, 2.3 million were transferred to the Fund Reconstruction of Haiti, we received 8.5 million dollars from the Thai private sector towards Haiti and I have the honor to receive the Ambassador today, which brought us a check of $964,594.25. This is a direct donation, I repeat, it is a direct donation of the Thai people to the Haitian people. We will use these funds in the campaign to free school transport currently, our children walk some kilometers to attend school, and kilometers to return to their home. We are there today to give a good news for children who will go to school [...] the Kingdom of Thailand has brought 964.000 for you, we will buy with this money school buses, that we will add to the buses that transport children to school..." In addition, the Minister Lamothe took the opportunity to show his deep interest in building a strong relationship between Haiti and Thailand, not only in terms of cooperation, but also and especially in the area of investment. "As a major producer of rice, Thailand has much to offer to Haiti. We plan, in that sense, to visit soon the Thailand to improve our relations," he announced. For his part, the Ambassador of Thailand has expressed the willingness of his country to assist Haiti and to continue its commitment in favor of economic and social development of country.
