Haiti - Environment : Roundtable on the theme of the insalubrity to Jacmel 21/11/2011 13:47:11 Several personalities of the city were present at this meeting include: the engineer Pierre Michel Lafontant, Departmental Delegate of Southeast and Frantz Magellan Pierre Louis one of his advisers, Edwin Zenny, the first Senator of South-East, Ronald Andris the Deputy Mayor of the City, Duplan Macdonald responsible for the Fire Department of Jacmel, Amil Roland Zenny the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Southeast as well as representatives of various youth organizations, of Ministry of Public Works, of Jean Michel Sabbat the technical coordinator of civil protection, and other members of the civil society. This working day, of discussions and exchanges, was an opportunity for various stakeholders of the city, to think and and to propose sustainable solutions in the management of rubbish which is a crucial problem to which the city of Alcibiades Pommayrac, faces. The debates were very animated among the participants, aware of the situation of insalubrity, which could have serious consequences for the health of the population and the reputation of Jacmel, known as the "cleanest city of the country." Each participant explained the main causes related to the problems of the mismanagement of rubbish in order to provide some solutions. After the meeting, in an interview granted to Haitilibre, Péronneau Pierre Richard, Head of COJADSUD, indicated that this day will be followed by other meetings with certain entities of the region, to gather their views and proposals on the problem of the insalubrity of the city "strategy will be defined in order to educate and involve the public in the fight to combat the rubbish around the city of Jacmel." For his part, the agronomist Lafontant, welcomed the initiative taken by these young scholars and their dedication in the construction of a new Haiti. He says he's ready to get alongside these young people as part of this project. "My presence demonstrates the will, not only to encourage the initiative, but also to accompany them as part of a follow up with the government and to give an example to the people." As for the deputy mayor, Ronald Andris, he announced the arrival of bins that will be installed in some streets of Jacmel to keep the city clean. He looked forward to the involvement of people in this activity. Ronald Andris has shown the interest and commitment of the City of Jacmel in this process and hoped that the initiative is sustainable. Learn more about the COJADSUD : The Commission on Youth in Action for the Development of South-East (COJADSUD), was officially launched on November 3, 2011, to Jacmel. The main mission of the Commission is to build a network of young people from different municipalities and sections, in order to gather a maximum participation in the project of liberation and of socio-economic development of Haiti and especially in the Southeast. Since its inception, members of the Commission began a series of initiatives in the community and are currently working on a set of projects, particularly on environmental issues. The COJADSUD also working on an ambitious project, that to provide the library of Jacmel, of books, computers and a broadband Internet to enable young students and scholars to increase their knowledge and also to strengthen the capacity of librarians in training.
