Haiti - Politic : Daniel Supplice spoke of the right to vote of the diaspora 23/11/2011 12:43:27 "...it is an honor to receive the Ministry Supplice here, who came to meet us, talk with us of the efforts we are making, that the government does, that the President Martelly does to be closer to the population" declared the Chancellor " [...] In this sense, we're here, we have made several discussions with the Minister and we arrived at several agreements that will allow the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad, to have representation through a network of Consulates and Embassies abroad with offices nearest, for the service to be better delivered to the people [...] this is just the beginning, we will continue working to provide more services to continue to serve the diaspora [...] I'll let the Ministry explain the other projects he has for the diaspora [...] " Daniel Supplice after having congratulated his guest for the work he does and its warm welcome, has informed " [...] in fact we're both at the head of ministry who have the responsibility of serving the public, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Haitians living abroad have a responsibility to give to the Haitian people, who lives outside of the territory, of services [...] we agreed to see how we're going to give the services, where will will give them and how we will arrange so that finally we can make possible everything that the President Martelly said during his campaign, namely that the diaspora is important, and that it is necessary to give the diaspora, the importance it has, by developing an institutional framework, a formal framework to serve it. The news that will interest the diaspora and which is extremely important, is that we believe that the diaspora, as it was said during the campaign, can be able to vote. I think that is extremely important since the diaspora contributes for more than two billion dollars a year, more money than all the donations and international aid that the country receives during the year. As such, I think that the Diaspora has the right to put themselves in the political affairs of the country [...] and have the right to choose who will lead us. Except that to have the right to vote, there is a whole series of steps that must be made, an electoral law adapted to this, it is necessary that the electoral lists are created, the Haitian must be identified. I think that one f the most important projects of the Ministry is to allow every Haitian living abroad, to hold a national identification card. In addition, the good news is that the President should publish the amendments that were made in the Constitution, which will allow multiple nationalities, so even the Haitian holding a foreign passport, because they are Haitian, will also be entitled to a national identification card that will allow them to vote. This is a news that who interests the whole of the Diaspora and, as the Ministry has just said, all the projects we have for the diaspora, the two ministries will come together to execute them, because in reality we have only one responsibility, that to provide services."
