Once off the helicopter, the Head of State clearly explained to journalists that his visit in the capital of this department, during the holiday season, testified once again his attachment to the Haitian people. The President Martelly then walked towards the city center where he paid a visit to merchants of the Public Market of the street of Quai. The joy and satisfaction were visible on the face of the latter. After going through several streets, the President of the Republic visited the Diocese of Port-de-Paix, where he met with Mgr Pierre Antoine Paulo. In the public square, where thousands of citizens had gathered, the Head of State has made a distribution of gifts including motorcycles and toys. On the occasion of a dinner given in his honor at the church hall, the President of the Republic has asked local authorities to forward the demands of the population of the Northwest to the central government for necessary follow-up. "No more rhetoric. We must now take concrete action", insisted the President Martelly, encouraging the responsibles of Port de Paix to effectively play their part in the development of the region where infrastructure and sanitation works are in progress.  The Head of State announced, in addition, the construction of public market on the Rue du Quai and a large hospital whose the ceremony of laying the first stone is scheduled for January. Before returning to Port-au-Prince, the President of the Republic, who will visit several other provincial towns before Christmas, has reiterated his commitment to work tirelessly to change the lives of the Haitian people.
