Haiti - Social : Sophia Martelly on the island of La Gonâve on the occasion of Christmas
Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of the Republic of Haiti, has exalted the hearts of children and parents of La Gonâve, particularly in the towns of Pointe-à-Raquettes and of Anse-à-Galets, on the occasion of Christmas. A first for the people of this borough, who had never received a First Lady of the Republic.

Several thousands of children accompanied by members of their family and also from surrounding communal sections, were welcomed by the First Lady who is, more and more convinced that young people, apart from education, need guidance and entertainment to help grow and thus constitute the true artisans of the development of Haiti. Aged between 2 and 14 years, they have, for the most part never had a year end gift of their life. Their enthusiasm was overflowing. Their parents said they were stunned.

Hailed by the local authorities of the island including the mayors of two towns, Paul Michel-Ange (Pointe-à-Raquettes) and Da Ham Laguerre (Anse-à-Galets) and representatives of women's associations as RAFADEG (Rasanbleman Fanm pou Devlopman LaGonav), the First Lady of the Republic, Sophia Martelly has once again supported and contributed to the strengthening of program "Christmas of Solidarity" of government Martelly/Conille.

Her presence in the area has also marked, according to the Deputy Commissioner of La Gonâve, an important step towards the fulfilling of the dream of Gonaviens, which is to be finally considered by the power in place. Indeed, several association members stressed the need of an intervention of the central government in terms of health facilities and roads, of improvement of living conditions of rural populations and to support police authorities experiencing difficulties of any kind.

The First Lady of the Republic, Sophia Martelly received the complaints, and promise to the people of La Gonâve to transmit them to the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly. She also took the opportunity to present its wishes for peace, happiness and solidarity on the occasion of Christmas and the holiday season. She also stressed on the need to share within their community.
